Wed, 4 February 2009 Notre Dame de Paris...and a bit more Episode 2 Reading 1 Notre Dame de Paris The reading starts, with Chapter 1, The Great Hall, as author Victor Hugo sets the scene. We are in Paris on January 6, 1482. The language, even in translation, is sumptuous. After reading the book and a brief discussion, there is just A Bit More. This section in today's podcast is Knitting Tales. Celeste tells her tale of The Vexing Vest. Sometimes we work hard to make something by hand for another, but our handmade gifts may not always please the recipient. Conclusion: Another short quip from Benjamin Franklin. This podcast is available (free) on Itunes. But wait, there's more! Blog at:

Wed, 4 February 2009 Reading the Classics Notre Dame de Paris And a bit more I'm Celeste. Welcome to Knitlark Lane. A lark is a songbird that loves to sing elaborate songs to express joy. I love the poem The Skylark by Christina Rosetti where she writes, "And still the singing skylark soared, And silent sank, and soared to sing." Reading beautiful words -- literature or poetry -- is one way those of us bound to earth can still spread our wings to soar. The word "lark" also has another meaning. It means "a frolic" or "a spree," and I hope that this podcast can bring a bit of joy to anyone who happens to listen. I love to read old stories and old books, and I like history, too. I love France. I have recently rediscovrered my love of knitting, and I have become obsessed with yarns and patterns. I hope you like the podcast. I am going to start by reading the novel Notre Dame de Paris by Victor Hugo. The pocast is available (free) on Itunes or you can listen from this site. Blog is found at: Comments[0] |
